STAT AI Prognosis: Investigative journalism examining medical AI, clinical evidence, regulatory issues, and exaggerated industry claims.

Enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is growing, but are claims outpacing the evidence? STAT’s AI Prognosis investigates the rapidly expanding world of medical AI, examining the science behind new technologies, questioning industry claims, and reporting on the regulatory, ethical, and practical challenges of introducing AI into patient care.

This independent journalism matters. An AI tool might perform well in a controlled study, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will improve patient outcomes in clinical practice. It also raises legitimate concerns about unintended harms, bias, privacy, and accountability. AI Prognosis helps separate what we know from what is being promised. That distinction is central to HUMAI, where we believe new technologies deserve the same scientific scrutiny as any other healthcare intervention.

Continuing the Conversation

Beyond HUMAI is intended to be an evolving collection of resources that complement our faculty's research, educational initiatives, and discussions about evidence-based medicine.

By sharing thoughtful perspectives from across the field, we hope to encourage informed debate, support critical appraisal, and contribute to a more responsible approach to AI in healthcare.

Our goal is not simply to follow the conversation about AI in medicine, but to help advance it.
